Phranc is a self-described all-American Jewish lesbian folk singer. As a kid, she was the keyboard player in Catholic Discipline, a band featured in the seminal punk rock documentary, The Decline of Western Civilization. Later, after focusing more on folk music, Phranc was the opening act for The Pogues and The Smiths on their last tours. She has been deeply involved with the LA art and music scene since the late '70s. Phranc rides a '60s longboard and has always had a reverence for classic surf culture, putting out a surf album called Goofy Foot.
